SEARCH MLS FOR HOMES IN COOPER CITY

The scoop: Clean, quiet Cooper City has a motto: "Someplace Special".  August 2007 issue of Family Circle Magazine named Cooper City one of the best 10 US cities for families, out of 1,850 cities that were studied.  Cooper City has long been known as an excellent place to "grow families."

The history: Founder, Morris Cooper, purchased a ten-acre orange grove on Davie Road, south of Griffin Road, naming his groves and cattle land Imperial Ranches. Cooper lost most of his cattle investment due to floods from the hurricane of 1947.  Undaunted, in 1952 he purchased 691 acres of land east of Southwest 100th Avenue and Griffin Road for $250,000.  1959, lots were being sold to developers.  Cooper City was born. Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) worth of lots were sold and by 1963, 120 homes were built on Cooper's 691 acre site.  Morris developed Cooper Colony Golf and Country Club and Cooper City Water and Sewage Company 1963.

Cooper City is located approximately fifteen miles southwest of Fort Lauderdale, this 8.5 square mile bedroom community has the fourth highest median household income in Broward County.

Stone monuments and fountain greet you as you enter the city.  This 7.5 square mile bedroom community has the fourth-highest median household income in Broward County. The average age of all residents is 32.5 years.

There are three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, as well as several private
and religious-affiliated schools. Parks, recreational facilities and programs for all ages.

Located far from the urban ills that suburbanites hate, Cooper City features a two-mile stretch of Stirling Road that has several churches or other religious facilities.

City commissioners are limited to nine consecutive years of service. The Mayor and Commissioners each have equal power in the proceedings of the City Commission. The Mayor and Commissioners have all legislative and policy-making powers for the city.

Cooper City is located about 15 miles southwest of Fort Lauderdale, south of Griffin Road, North of Sheridan Road, east of Flamingo Road and west of Pine Island Road.
